"Sid Melo was born and raised in Toronto, Canada but grew up in a household deeply rooted in Brazilian culture. He was surrounded by the vibrant legacy of his father, Carlito Palmeira Melo, who aside from a professional career as a chemist, was a community icon who championed Brazilian culture in Canada—establishing the first Brazilian musical band “Rio Connection” in the late 1970s and holding the position of musical director for Toronto’s Annual Brazilian Carnival Ball, which continues to this day. His mother Dalva Melo, was a diplomat for the Brazilian Consulate in Toronto during the 1980s.

Their dedication to sharing Brazil’s culture inspired Sid’s journey as a cultural liaison, translator and a proud promoter of brazilian culture. Sid has had the privilege of working with influential organizations and high-profile individuals, from assisting The Remix Project (youth program) and a Brazilian delegation at the Ignite the Americas forum to supporting Brazilian professional football players Gilberto Oliveira Souza, Jackson Goncalves, and World Cup Champion (goalie) Júlio César while playing with the Toronto Football Club (TFC). his role as a translator has also extended to moments like the 4 Real TV launch on MTV Canada for Brazilian rapper MV Bill.

With Braziroots, today Sid is excited to carry forward his family’s legacy, connecting people worldwide to the heart of Brazilian culture."

Working with the Toronto football club was a great moment of realizing my purpose that surpassed my humble desire to just share my culture amongst friends, but rather find a way to share it through various means worldwide. - Sid Melo
